Journalism Matters, the news media industry\u2019s annual campaign to highlight the importance of trusted journalism, will run from 1-7 November this year.<\/p>\n
Coordinated by the News Media Association, the weeklong campaign received unprecedented support in 2020<\/a> with high profile figures including Prime Minister Boris Johnson giving Journalism Matters their backing.<\/p>\n In a message to NMA members, The Queen said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has once again demonstrated what an important public service the established news media provides, both nationally and regionally.<\/p>\n “As our world has changed dramatically, having trusted, reliable sources of information, particularly at a time when there are so many sources competing for our attention, is vital.”<\/p>\n This year, the campaign will have an overarching theme of the importance of trusted journalism to society, while tackling key topics including climate change, state secrecy, and the abuse of journalists.<\/p>\n Journalism Matters will also showcase the industry\u2019s powerful campaigning though the annual Making a Difference online public vote will be held for the best national and local newspaper campaigns of the past year<\/p>\n National, regional, and local news brands all over the country took part promoting the campaign in both print and online in a variety of ways.<\/p>\n First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, then Minister of State for Media and Data John Whittingdale, and the Shadow Culture Secretary Jo Stevens, all voiced their support for the campaign and heralding the vital role journalism has played during the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n During the pandemic our local, regional and national newspapers have proved indispensable in keeping communities reliably informed and I urge everyone to support the @newsmediaorg<\/a> Journalism Matters campaign. #JournalismMatters<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Boris Johnson (@BorisJohnson) October 8, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n
